Who we are!
Jakob Marengo TC, is named after the “black Napoleon”. Jakob Marengo was regarded as the intellectual source of the attacks against colonial power. Jakob Marengo was an underdog in the face of the German military, however this did not deter him in the least from going after his vision and goals. This is the vision that Jakob Marengo TC was built upon, “A society not scared to fight for their vision, dreams and goals!”
Our Principles
Participatory Democracy
Jakob Marengo TC believes everyone is a leader and everyone should be taught and should practice their democratic rights and have a voice in everything that their teachers, leaders decide to do with their lives. Jakob Marengo doesn't believe in the system of a chosen few (LRC-system) hence we established the "TURMA" system. Every Child is part of the "TURMA" system. The Participatory Democracy builds on the natural leadership abilities of every student and turns them into better leaders.
Critical Thinking
Jakob Marengo was a very tactical, analytical person and this made him one of the most revered figures of Namibian history. This is why one of our major aims and principles is to teach all our pupils "Critical Thinking". Critical Thinking at Jakob Marengo begins with teaching responsibility for every action, reasoning, lobbying when in a disagreement, Evaluating priorities, problem solving and many more.
Non Sexism
Jakob Marengo TC was created in the late 1980's it was created to bring about equality and educate the disadvantaged. Jakob Marengo TC was created from 3-key Groups who knew they were the underdogs but together could change society. These organisations such as the Khomasdal Civic Association and Namibian Women’s' Association established Jakob Marengo Secondary School. These organisations sought to change the future by teaching the youth the importance of not viewing people based upon their genders or sex.
Responsibility & Reciprocity
Jakob Marengo TC was built to allow our pupils to realize that they can be and they are the masters of their fate and captains of their ships (Life). The social norm of reciprocity is the expectation that people will respond to each other in similar ways—responding to gifts and kindnesses from others with similar benevolence of their own, and responding to harmful, hurtful acts from others with either indifference or some form of retaliation. Such norms can be crude and mechanical such as a literal reading of the eye-for-an-eye rule “l ex talionis’, or they can be complex and sophisticated, such as a subtle understanding of how anonymous donations to an international organization can be a form of reciprocity for the receipt of very personal benefits, such as the love of a parent.
Self Discipline
Self-discipline is the key to success, Jakob Marengo TC knows that no achiever can succeed without their own perseverance, determination and the ability to control their own minds. Self-Discipline is what led to the freedom of colonized states and it is the determinant of everything.
